This site is dedicated to modification of phpBB modified by Przemo
This modification is free, based on phpBB 2.0.X script, it contains about 200 add-ons, with ability to switch off any of them in admin's panel.
You find here any information you need, such as list of add-ons, instalation instructions and how to exchange original phpBB with this modification. There is also discuss forum, of course.
In the download section you can find the newest version with styles, older versions and updates. |

| Installation |
Installation of my modified forum doesn't differ in any way from installation of original phpBB 2.0.x
But only for MySQL databases for now. If you know some right converter MySQL -> Postgres or MSSQL please notify me. |
| At the begining you need a server. And here, unfortunately, won't be too easy. You need server with PHP and MySQL (don't worry
if you don't know what it is, you learn about it in appropriate time). Most of free servers, such as Lycos are out. There are several solutions -
servers for a fee, looking for portal which will sponsor you (but in this case your website must present very high standard), meeting someone
nice, sympathetic and friendly with own server or... some patience, search engine (I recommend Google) and few hours of searching...
Unfortunately it won't be easy. I made my first forum at www.tripod.lycos.co.uk, but frankly I don't recommend this server...
But for first steps it should be OK. | So, when you have your own account, you have to download phpBB.
If archive with phpBB lands on your disk, unpack it and upload to the server.
Be careful!!!
Many people make a mistake or
rather use wrong FTP client which can change case of letters in file names. Remember: after finish copying check if capitals aren't changed to lower
case!
Second thing: try to upload files during small network load. When transfer is small and there are problems with communication files are
often uploaded with errors, truncated or contain random data. I recommend Total Commander (earlier called Windows Commander). |
Now you can start installation.
You can start entering in browser's window link to forum's directory, so if (for example)
you have uploaded files to directory forum and server's address is http://www.freepage.com/mywebsite, you should type
http://www.freepage.com/mywebsite/forum. Now the install screen should show up. Depending on language version you'll get english or polishr
captions.
- Default board language - I don't have to explain it. If you've putted to server polish version of phpBB
probably you'll have choise between polish and english language.
- Database Type - Here you choose type of database.
In most cases script will detect it automatically.
- Choose your installation method - Of course you choose "Install".
- Your Database Name - As you see, here is the place for name of your MySQL database. In this case you have to browse
through documentation. In the case of Lycos server the name is "<yourlogin>_uk_db"
- Database Username -
Like previously, without browsing through docs is necessary. In the case of Lycos server it's just your login. Often the name of database and
the name of user are the same name as your login.
- Prefix for tables in database - Don't change unless you want to install
more than one copy of phpBB in the same database. Then for each of them you have to choose different prefix.
- Admin Email
Address - Your e-mail. Below there are also fields for your login and password.
- Domain Name, Server Port, Script
path - It's safest not to change these three fields, but just in case it's better to check them.
In next fields you have to
type nick, e-mail and password of administrator, that is yours. | | Now you can press "Start instalation" button.
If your server needs write permissions you can be asked for save config.php to disk. Save it and upload via FTP to forum's directory.
Problem with write perms can come back while, for example, uploading avatar. You can find more knowledge about this in info.htm
file in section: RIGHTS FOR WRITTING FILES (CHMOD) this file is in main directory of your forum. |
| Changing original phpBB 2.0.x to my version |
| There is possibility to update your forum phpBB 2.0.x to my version 1.8 without loss of any data and with possibility to
uninstall my modification (see below) | | Important - make a backup copy of database (you can do that in admin's
panel "Backup copy" or in phpmyadmin "Export" (Structure and data)) and forum's files before attempt to described below actions. |
This process consists of two stages:
1. - Update SQL database
First step is to change database. You should run
directory: script/update.php, while logged as admin enter in your web browser
http://address.of.your.forum.net/scripts/update.php and on screen should show up instruction of update database.
2. -
Update forum's files
Upload to forum's directory all files of my modification except config.php - this file should
remain from original version!
If you have in your forum any style other than subSilver be sure to default and your style is subSilver. It can will be other style publish on my website. But if your users using some other styles, unavailable for my modification you must resign of it, or remake it to my version and after update you should execute SQL query using PhpMyAdmin, or phpBBMyAdmin located in the Admin Control Panel: SQL:
UPDATE phpbb_users SET user_style = 1;
Change phpbb_ tou your prefix if different.
| | Instructions which haven't been executed will be displayed. In the update of original phpBB as well as the update of a lower version of phpBB by Przemo most of the instructions won't be executed because this is a universal update aplication. |
| Updating to higher version |
Important - Make a backup of database and forum's files before attempt to described below actions.
This process
consists of two stages:
1. - Update SQL database
First step is to change database. You should load into forum directory
only /scripts/ directory and then enter in your browser http://adres.of.your.forum.net/scripts/update.php and on screen should show up
instruction of update database.
2. - Update forum's files
Load
into forum's directory all files from modification directory phpBB_modified_by_Przemo |
| Uninstalling my version |
This is very simple action. It also consists of two steps:
1. Uninstall from database which is accessible in
admin's panel in section of SQL (only main administrator)
2. Restore original phpBB2.0.x files. I suggest remove all forum files
except images directory and config.php file and upload original phpBB2.0.x files |
