There is a bridge program that can integrate this modified phpBB2 into Joomla CMS. You can find it at:

I tested it and found that phpBB2 by Przemo can work with Joomla very well.

Then a new question : Since I am a Chinese user of Joomla, I added a Chinese language folder for the phpBB2 by Przemo. It can display Chinese interface when access the forum independently. But if via the wrapper of Joomla, some Chinese characters will changed to unreadable symbols since I use UTF-8 encoding in the Joomla template.

Is there any method to let phpBB2 by Przemo also support UTF-8 encoding, especially from the very beginning of installation ?

You have to:
1. Convert language files to use UTF-8 (don't forget encoding declaration in lang_main.php and lang_xs.php!).
2. Convert email templates (lang_*/email/*.tpl)
3. Convert all tables in the database to use UTF-8.
4. On the server, enable PHP to use mbstring extension for your forum. If it's impossible, you'll have to change some of native PHP function calls (strlen, substr) to some UTF-8 capable counterparts, otherwise some texts displayed on the forum will be too short and wrongly trimmed.

It worked for when I was converting my old Przemo 1.9 and so far (over two years) I had no problems. I don't expect any problems for 1.12.
